About Me

Hi! I am Brynn Patrello- a master’s student studying cartography and geographic information systems at University of Wisconsin-Madison.

My research examines the role of psychological stress in cartographic interaction. When a user comes into a cartographic interaction with high levels of cortisol and psychological stress, how does that influence their behaviors, decisions, and preferences while using the map?

I am also a member of the UW-Cartography lab where I collaborate with clients to create maps for their projects. Some of my past collaborations include the Wisconsin Idea Seminar and the History of Cartography Project.

Inspiration for my maps comes from embracing vibrancy and adventure. Learning about places outside of the United States through mapping their stories is one of my favorite parts of the cartographic experience. Through my designs, I find it important to communicate a sense of life for the places I map. I do this through color choices, mixed media, and storytelling. I try not to shy away from displaying personality and identity of places in designs.

With a background in art and graphic design, I also enjoy projects that include components beyond the map. Creating an experience, not just a design, is a goal that I bring into every project I pursue.

I am currently accepting new projects. If interested in getting in touch, you can reach me here.
